Trent University is a recognized global leader in interdisciplinary aging studies and a vital source of leadership, and social and economic capacity building around aging issues. Trent is one of Canada's top universities founded on the ideal of interactive learning that is personal, purposeful, and transformative.
The University wishes to establish a University-Integrated Seniors Village (also known worldwide as 'a campus of care') on its Symons Campus lands in Peterborough, Ontario). The concept of a seniors village is part of Trent’s commitment to using its lands to advance research and teaching, and to generate an additional revenue stream for the University to supports its academic and community engagement goals.
Trent's Peterborough campus boasts award-winning architecture in a breathtaking natural setting on the banks of the Otonabee River. The planned project site consists of approximately 6 hectares of land situated at the northwest corner of Trent’s Symons campus (Water Street and Woodland Drive) in the City of Peterborough.
Anchored by a long-term care home adjacent to its planned site, the Seniors Village is envisioned as an integrated, community-based development where seniors can stay engaged in life-long learning, multi-generational interaction, the arts, research opportunities, and the life of the University. Building on the University’s standing as a globally recognized age-friendly university and its research expertise in aging, the Seniors Village will also provide hands-on learning opportunities for the University’s students and advance research into aging while meeting the needs of the Peterborough community for more seniors housing.
The project presents a unique opportunity for a Developer to collaborate with the University to deliver a highly innovative seniors living development that will likely become a landmark project in Canada. The University will execute a two-stage procurement process, seeking to identify Respondents with teams of qualified firms with the capacity to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain the Seniors Village.
